A-10 Retiring Silver Rider

This video was created while the fate of the A-10 was still in doubt. In 2018 and 2019 a battle raged in the Senate to keep or retire the A-10 Warthog. I recall being at an Airforce A-1 Skyraider reunion where the question was asked many times what was going to happen to the A-10 Warthog. Roger Youngblood A-1 Pilot and A-10 pilot who had been in on its early development and written the manual for Search and Rescue support missions made a few comments. When discussing the possible replacement for the A-10 Warthog, Roger stated the capabilities of the proposed replacement. One of the major shortfalls was its limited time on station. Rogers's comment was “We continue to learn hard lessons.” Luckily the Senate realized how the loss of the A-10 would negatively impact the troops on the ground and invested heavily in its revitalization.

A buddy of mine, Roger Youngblood, a retired test pilot sent me a 16 mm magnetic reel of test/demo footage of the A-10 Thunderbolt. The film was water damaged and had no sound left. I had been reviewing the footage for a couple of days. I happen to be driving down the road and hear Robert Plants Silver Rider , the lyrics instantly matched up to the video in my head. Song was written by Zak Sally, Mimi Parker, Alan Sparhawk Sung by Robert Plant. Find
